Join our 2019 adventure cycling camp in Tiruvannamalai.
The Tiruvannamalai Adventure/Training camp is for anyone who wants to get in 3 hard training days(Performance group) or relaxed riding(Endurance group) whilst exploring new territory, riding with like-minded athletes, improving bike handling skills and making new friends from across India. It’s also about sharing experiences with regards to training strategies, nutrition and off the saddle re-balancing/strength work to prevent injuries and enhancing cycling performance.
During the 2 and a half days you are at the camp everyone gets a chance to interact with Coach Volker Maier and participate in optional education tracks like Wko, the most advanced data analytical tool for cyclists and runners and especially coaches/wanna be coaches. There will also be other high quality resources/sessions for Nutrition, Gym work and Bike fitting.
You will be camping at Sparsa Resorts. Fashioned from eco-friendly material to meet high ecological standards, this spiritual themed resort is certified as an Ecotel Resort.

About the resort

Exclusive climbing and descending skills session with Coach Volker 6-8 am(for those who arrive on the 12th, limited to 10 riders, location base of Jawadhu from Athimoor).

Choose the group you would like to ride with (Performance or Endurance), meet the other riders and Coaches. A brief will be given on the route and activities planned for the rest of the day. Mechanic and tools will be available for Bike check.

Description:
Today we ride from our resort through the scenic reserve forest roads of Kanji. From Kanji we ride through beautiful villages to reach Pettai. We then cross Mambattu, Athimoor to reach Kaliyam, from where we will then ascend the Jawadhu Polur Reserve forest hills for 11 kms(700 meters elevation gain) and loop back to the resort. Mostly flattish rolling terrain, the last 15 kms from Kanji to Tiruvannamalai is fast, slightly downhill and with the wind we will be cruising at 50+ kmph on wide, beautiful roads, which you cannot afford to miss. Enjoy the ride back, chilled refreshments awaits you all back at Sparsa! Once at the resort you can take some rest, get a massage, swim and refuel before the Restorative Yoga and Education sessions.

Round Table Cycling Discussion: Sparsa Conference hall 6:30 pmAfter a shower/swim and restorative Yoga, join the coaching team for post ride analysis and an advanced Wko session by Coach Volker. This is a great time to ask him about power based training, how to measure, analyse and use the data to improve performance.(Sign up mandatory, 12 maximum) At the same time a session on Wko basics will be held by Balaji J, Abirami M and Michael S.

Description:
Today the Performance group will start from Sparsa, ride along the scenic villages of Kalrayan hill forests such as Thandrampattu, Thanipadi, Naripalli and Sittling to reach Thumbal. The Endurance group will start their ride from Naripalli. We then climb Kalrayan from the west side through Thumbal, head towards Karumandurai, reach Kariyalur where breakfast will be served. Post Breakfast the performance group will climb up 10kms towards Serapattu and turn back. We then start descending towards Mathur, Manmalai and reach Pootai through Arasampattu, the ride ends at Sankarapuram where chilled refreshments will be served. The route has a total ascent of 1527 m and cars will be available for those who wish to drive back to the resort.
Take a nap, go for a swim, get a massage, or join us for some post ride restorative Yoga and stretches.

Education Tracks: Sparsa Conference hall 6:15 pmHow to get started as a Coach? By Coach Volker 6:15-7:15pm
Emphasis on using Wko, the leading data analytical tool for cyclists and runners looking to eliminate guessing and maximize performance. This session is designed especially for self-coached athletes or wanna be coaches who like to enter the world of power and power based training.
Physical assist, Injury prevention, pain free riding, better performance on the bike.
All the above can be achieved via a personal rider assessment of muscle and posture imbalances, followed by stretches and specific strength work by Sriram L and Srivatsan S
Resources to cover Nutrition, bike fit will be scheduled depending on time availability.

Description:
Today the Performance and the Endurance group will tackle the famous Jawadhu hills. The route takes us through scenic reserve forest roads to reach Kanji. From there we go through beautiful villages such as Puthupalayam , Alaputhur (flat/rolling terrain) to reach Paramanandal (Base). Once we reach the base we climb up Jawadhu from the south side for a steady 11 kms @ 6% average gradient to reach the Arch at the top. We then head back to the resort in the same route.

Sprinting and Bike handling Skills: Sparsa Resort 7:00 am onwards
There will be a special bike skills session with Coach Volker for those who choose not to do the long ride. This session will focus on bike handling, braking, sprinting and also cornering.
Post Ride: Sparsa Parking lot 9:30 amOnce back to the resort, have a relaxed swim, get a massage, or join us for some post ride restorative Yoga and stretches.
